Hot Chemotherapy Application in the Treatment of Advanced Stage Intra-Abdominal Cancers

Hot chemotherapy, which is used especially in the treatment of advanced stage intra-abdominal cancers that have not metastasized outside the abdomen, is known as "cytoreductive surgery" and "hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC)" in the medical literature. This method is emerging as an effective treatment option, especially in certain types of cancer.

Deciding which patients to apply hot chemotherapy is an important decision that should be made not only by a physician but also by a multidisciplinary committee. This treatment can be applied especially to cancer types such as ovarian cancer and colon cancer and effective results can be obtained. In addition, scientific studies have shown that it is effective in organ tumors such as peritoneal (abdominal lining) and appendix cancers.

However, there have been cases where hot chemotherapy was not effective in more aggressive cancer types such as stomach cancer and pancreatic cancer. Therefore, when deciding whether to apply this treatment method, choosing centers that are experienced and have multiple disciplines ensures that patients benefit from the treatment process in the best way.

Hot chemotherapy has the advantage of causing minimal damage to healthy tissues while directly targeting cancer cells. This is a method designed specifically to destroy cancer cells in the abdomen and improve the patient's quality of life. The success of the treatment varies depending on factors such as the patient's general health condition and the stage and type of cancer.
